About the Event
The Central & North Florida Chapter of HIMSS is dedicated to helping our members grow, and we are proud to offer a CAHIMS & CPHIMS Boot Camp review course to help our members pursue their goals of becoming certified!
The course will be using content from the CPHIMS review course and still applies to the CAHIMS review course but in more detail. If you are looking to study for CAHIMS or CPHIMS, this course will cover items for both exams.
The virtual course is scheduled over four Mondays in April 2024 at 3pm-5pm EST, with each session covering different chapters of the exam. It is highly recommended that you purchase a copy of the latest version of the appropriate manual (The CPHIMS Review Guide, 4th Edition: Preparing for Success in Healthcare Information and Management Systems) prior to attending the boot camp.
This virtual boot camp will help prepare you for your exam, and provide an opportunity to network with like-minded healthcare IT professionals.
NOTE: This class is NOT intended to teach you the exam, but to introduce you to the material and concepts covered by the exam, and test taking strategies to get you ready.

Learning Objectives
The participant will be able to:
- Describe the various components of the CAHIMS & CPHIMS Body of Knowledge.
- Articulate the opportunities and challenges in the healthcare environment, while addressing the technological components needed to deliver patient care.
- Identify basic clinical and healthcare IT vocabulary/terms frequently represented in healthcare informatics.
- Interpret clinical and operational outcomes through the use of various data analytics tools.
- Describe the components of the implementation development life cycle in a healthcare setting by identifying those concepts required from initial inception of an idea through implementation.
- Discuss the components required to support and maintain those who use software applications in a healthcare setting.
- Discuss the current state of privacy and security challenges and opportunities in healthcare today.
- Describe the importance of the many administrative aspects of health IT from the perspective of protecting health information to ensuring that the leadership and management functions of the healthcare setting are identified and understood.
- Implement studying and test taking skills and tips that may be utilized to further prepare the student for taking the exam.
About the Course Instructor
Richard R. Crews, CAHIMS, SHIMSS
Richard is an experienced Healthcare Informatics Analyst with Tampa General Hospital providing support to the clinical and non-clinical areas of the organization on systems analysis, workflow analysis, build, design, testing, interface, and data analysis. He has over 12 years of experience in healthcare, across multiple specialties and settings, performing systems analysis, workflow analysis, data analysis and leading process improvement projects in both clinical and non-clinical settings. Richard is a member of the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) for over 6 years currently serving in an executive board role for the Central & North Florida Chapter. He is also a Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems and has earned Senior Member status with HIMSS for his contributions in the Healthcare IT profession.
