HIMSS Central and North Florida Chapter Scholarship Program 2023-2024

 

Healthcare Innovation Scholarship 

Purpose: This scholarship will provide funds to an individual who has an interest in innovations that can improve health information technology (HIT) and interoperability within their academia, workplace, community, or organization. 

Amount: $5,000.00

Deadline: December 29, 2023

Award Date: Annual CNFL HIMSS Conference (January 10-12, 2024)

 

Qualifications:

• A current member of an HIMSS Chapter/organization and be located within the region of the chapter presenting the award.  (HIMSS Membership Number Required/see map) 

• Students must be registered and attending courses in an accredited academic undergraduate or graduate program currently or within the last 12 months prior to the application submission deadline. 

 If accepted, they may be a program graduate at the time of presentation. 

 

Requirements: 

1. Innovations should be relevant to the following; 

  • Population health management
  • Social determinants of health
  • Artificial intelligence/Machine Learning
  • Health Data Management/Governance
  • Healthcare Clinical Innovation
  • Tele-including Reimbursement
  • Remote workforce
  • Cyber Security
  • Mobile Computing
  • Interoperability and Information Blocking
  • Data and Standards
  • HIPAA
  • Data Transparency
  • Value-based reimbursement
  • Data Science
    • Any other related topics

2. A student must be the lead author. Co-authors may be students, faculty, or mentors. 

3. Only one submission per individual or group. 

4. This submission should include the following sections in a poster template (see links below for assistance with designing and ordering a poster): 

  • Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion. 

5. All posters should be printed landscape and be no larger than: 42"x56". (Poster stands will be provided at the conference.) 

  • Note: posters may be all digital if necessary.

6. Please be sure to note in the poster how your work is innovative and significant to the field. 

7. The poster does not need to be 100% complete by December 29, 2023. 

  • Preliminary results may be included in the application, and all work must be completed by January 5, 2024 for presentation at the conference and included in the final accepted poster submission. Proposals will not be considered if all work is not completed and submitted by January 10, 2024. 

8. This form and poster submissions should be uploaded to the scholarship submission link no later than December 29, 2023 11:59 PM EST. The email should include the application and the poster.

 

Selection Process:

• The top 3 finalist will be selected by January 3rd, 2024 and notified by email. Email will be sent to lead author.

  • You will be given a link to submit the finalized poster if selected to move forward.

• The judging committee will reach out if there are any questions or clarifications concerning your submission.

• The 3 finalist will have covered travel arrangements to the annual CNFL conference by the local CNFL chapter. Conference event is January 10-12, 2024, please be sure to have availability to attend the conference during these dates.

• Final winner will be announced at the conference and receive the prize of the scholarship.

  • Please note: all 3 finalists will present at the conference in front of a live audience of respective peers in the field of health and technology. The audience will determine final winner. 
  • There will be 3 tier winners as follows: 

1. Tier 1: $2,500 (1st place)

2. Tier 2: $1,500 (2nd place)

3. Tier 3: $1,000 (3rd place)

HIMSS Student Scholarship 2023-2024

Purpose: This scholarship will provide the opportunity for a future worker in the Health Information Management (HIM) sector a chance to further their career, passion and focus within the world of HIM.

Amount: $5000.00

Deadline: December 29, 2023

Award Date: annual CNFL HIMSS Conference

Qualifications:

  • 3.0 GPA or above

  • Attend an affiliated university or college

  • A current undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral program

  • In good academic standing with the affiliated school

  • Pursing a degree in

    • Health Information Management (HIM)

    • Computer science

    • Information technology

    • Informatics

    • Biomedical engineering

    • Management systems

    • Operations research

    • Industrial engineering

    • Quantitative studies

  • A current member of an HIM Chapter/organization and be located within the region of the chapter presenting the award. (HIMSS Membership Number Required)

  • Attend a volunteer function

Requirements:

  1. write a 500-1000 word paper explaining what obtaining this scholarship would mean to you and how you plan on advancing your career in Health Information Management (HIM)

  2. A resume

  3. 2 letters of recommendations (peers, colleagues, managers, or professors)
